Calvary Assembly Of God Mc Doom Hosts Health Fair & Hallelujah Night

Calvary AOG McDoom Church will be hosting its Health fair and Hallelujah Night on Saturday November 1st, 2014.

What is Hallelujah Night all about? Hallelujah Night is held to provide a safe place for children to fellowship in a Christian environment rather than going to other Halloween events across Guyana. It is an alternative to celebrating Halloween, which many consider to be a day of evil.

According to the event coordinator, Miss. Carlotta Lord,

“There is nothing sacred about Halloween. At Hallelujah Night everyone can come out and have good wholesome fun as a family. The children and parents will all enjoy themselves, from toddlers to adults.”

The Senior Pastor, Rev C. Lall reiterates that,

“This is the function of the church, bringing people together and serving others. Christianity is a big part of Hallelujah Night. This event is a seed that is planted to show people that we can still have fun at church activities, in a safe, Christian environment.”

Fun For All Ages

Activities for the children include: Face painting (done by the best in Guyana Bravo Arts), Pin the tail on the donkey, Bowling, Go fish, Musical chairs, and Hula hooping. Bouncy castles and trampolines will be available as well.  Special appearances will be made by Dora The explorer, Sponge Bob and other popular cartoon characters compliments of Tons of Fun.

The adults will be entertained by activities such as Dominoes, Table Tennis, Bingo and many more.

Costume Competition

Costumes at Hallelujah Night are as elaborate as anything in the neighborhood streets, and they are not restricted to Bible characters—you are as likely to see Dora, Spider Man, and Snow
White as you are to see King David, Mary, and Joseph.  A stage show will be hosted for children to showcase their costumes followed by the distribution of prizes for the best of the lot.

In an effort to achieve its original purpose of combating the dark forces upon which Halloween is based, Hallelujah Night provides a practical alternative to  trick-or-treating, going to scary parties and other events that promote Halloween.

Refreshments will be available and inlude the likes of popcorn, chili dogs, drinks, snow cones, cotton candy, white puddin, brownies and many more items.

No Alkaline in Guyana

Shereita Grizzle, STAR Writer

He is set to make his first appearance in Guyana over the weekend, but his imminent performance in the country has been met by heavy resistance by at least one outreach organisation.

Joshua Generation, the Youth Arm of Love and Faith World Outreach Ministries, have made it clear that they do not support the move by Hits and Jams Entertainment to have dancehall artiste Alkaline perform at their Jamzone Summer Break.

The youth outreach group is hoping the organisers will think twice about the artiste’s appearance. In their letter to the country’s national newspaper, Starbroeke, the group gave reasons why they oppose Alkaline’s performance.

“We’ve decided that we will take a stand and make it known that we do not appreciate and will not condone Hits and Jams bringing artistes like Alkaline to our land. This is a position we maintain in relation to this particular artiste and any others whose music and lifestyle do nothing to positively uplift our youth,” they said.

7486ad1e449074a72c97b44c9a0f1d23The youth group used the artiste’s ban in other countries to support their stance. “It has been made public that Alkaline, Tommy Lee and other artistes of similar nature have been barred from performing in some countries, therefore, begging the question as to why we should expose our youth to this level of vulgarity.”

The letter goes on to state that Alkaline and other dancehall artistes, including Tommy Lee, play an important part in the deterioration of the society’s moral standings. Not only is the group asking that the artiste’s performance be cancelled, but they are also calling on the nation’s president to act on getting local radio stations to stop playing the artiste’s music.

Despite the opinions of the youth organisation, it seems to be all systems go for the young artiste. The Weekend STAR was told by a member of Alkaline’s management team that the artiste will be performing as scheduled.

“The promoters have assured us that he will be performing as scheduled, nothing has changed,” the representative said. The 19-year-old entertainer, who has been booked for the show since June, is set to perform on Saturday.

About Donnie McClurkin
Donnie McClurkin is a gospel vocalist with the soul of Andraé Crouch and the contemporary flair of Kirk Franklin. Born into a home filled with domestic violence and drug abuse, McClurkin was rescued by an aunt who sang background vocals with Crouch himself.
After staying close to Crouch throughout his boyhood, he began to play piano and sing with his church’s youth choir. He formed the McClurkin Singers by the time he was a teenager, and later formed another group, the New York Restoration Choir.  Hired as an associate minister at Marvin Winans’ Perfecting Church in 1989, McClurkin endured a bout of leukemia that year. A friendship with a Warner Alliance executive resulted in his signing for the label for his 1996 self-titled album, with producers Mark Kibble, Cedric and Victor Maxwell plus Andraé Crouch.

Music Video Rating

I was developing a rating system in my head while sitting in the room of inspiration. The room of inspiration differs from place to place, person to person. Some people would prefer to read the newspaper there some would send text messages or some would prefer to concentrate on the mission at hand -the real purpose for being in that room. Anyway enough of that toilet talk.

Music Video Ratings.

B = Beautiful storyline (a twist in the plot, surprising the audience is welcomed) , appropriate use of transitions and vfx, Creative photography and camera movement.

M =Story line matches lyrics, appropriate use of transitions and vfx, good photography and camera movement.

PL =Shots of performer at various locations , acceptable transitions and vfx, camera movement.

KB= Basic in studio and outdoor shots with keyed backgrounds

Great thats it.
